Once again, you get to know who really runs this Popsicle stand by who you can criticize. Much like Joe the Plumber and Kato Kaelin, Cliven Bundy had to invoke the Peter Principle (of rising to his level of incompetence) by being a pundit on all issues small and large at the 14:59 mark of his 15 minutes of fame.
“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.
“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”
Oh Mr.Bundy, you done did it. You gave ammunition to the leftists who couldn’t defeat you by the gun, but they will now bury you under the pen. And they buy their ink in 55 gallon drums. I don’t see hate and venom from Bundy toward the blacks; I see a frustration and the condition of being fed up with what he sees with his own two eyes.
If I was an anthropologist from Uzbekistan let’s say and totally ignorant of the verbal dance we have in this country, and I studied history and current events of the USA, what would I see? I’d disagree with Bundy on slavery, but I’d move the pointer on history up 100 years to the Great Society. I’d see that African Americans were shut out of many trades and professions that whites got to advance within, but in spite of separate and lesser opportunity, I’d see a people where people married once for life, raised their children, filled the church on Sunday, and lived in sections of town where you could walk safely down the street and have a fulfilling life within your community. Then once I see all sorts of government aid, I’d see the community implode, single mothers the norm, businesses flee with their well paying factory jobs, drug use and gang activity, what was once on the margin, now the center of things, whole parts of cities as no-go zones. I’d see whites both liberal and conservative flee areas once they got more than 25% black. Then I’d see blacks who still want to keep it all together and not have their kids sucked into thug life move into the collar suburbs to get the heck away from the N-words themselves.
Has the federal government not gotten the African Americans to trade a private master for the public one? We used the Department of the Interior to make the Native American resident upon unproductive scrub land and dependent upon the government. He ended up drunk and diabetic, for the most part. Then the other alphabet agencies decided to help the African American in the same fashion, and now we have many, many more pets in Uncle Sam’s collection. God help them all when the state collapses under the groaning debt, and people who for generations haven’t known what to do other than to wait for the Eagle to land on the first of the month have to fend for themselves.
An Uzbekistani may get away with saying the emperor has no clothes until someone corrects him and says never mind the dumb foreigner. But be a white conservative rancher who points out the dysfunction that the government that tried to take him over inflicts on the people it claims to help the most, and he’s a klansman.
